Oh. My. Goodness. Jeff Koons, a renowned contemporary artist who made a porcelain Michael Jackson and larger than life balloon animals, partnered with Advocate Children's Hospital in 2010 to make their CT scanner... fun. This hospital is pretty much in my backyard. The hospital and Koons, who volunteered his time and effort to the hospital and took no artist's fee, partnered thanks to RxArt.
Hundreds of research projects proved that artwork in hospitals can help the healing process. It has to be the right kind of artwork, though. Familiar images soothe whereas abstract can raise blood pressure and induce anxiety. I can see how children would enjoy this colorful space!
