An astoundingly cheap fix to clubfoot (Wired)

The things that creative college students come up with! There has been a larger movement toward minimalism after the conspicuous consumption of the generations of Americans before us, so ideas such as small space living and minimalist branding have gained popularity.

In medicine, the onus has been to create less conspicuous and more budget-friendly treatment options. As part of an "extreme affordability" class, two university students designed a $20 brace for clubfoot that is attractive, inexpensive, and easy to use. This encourages parents to continue using it even after the condition appears fixed (much like orthodonture, the brace must be worn for a period of years to prevent relapse). Now, clubfoot therapy is not only limited to the first world!

The device is undergoing FDA approval and faces some adoption hurdles from South American doctors for cultural reasons. The company sponsoring the product, though, hopes to put 15,000 into production by the end of the year. These ingenious college students definitely are both game changers and life changers!
