More food posts are back by popular demand! "Eat Like a Med Student" (inspired by a previous post) is a new tag.
Chicago Restaurant Week is here! After an exciting afternoon at the hospital yesterday (more on that in a few hours), a classmate and I headed to Demera for some Michelin-rated Ethiopian food. For $22 between the two of us we had an appetizer (beef sambussa), three veg and three meat entree pickings, and dessert. We got some cinnamon tea to keep the day's chilly wind at bay. I learned that traditional communal dining is called "messob" in Ethiopian.
Demera comes highly recommended! Get the quosta (spinach)! Or the doro wot (chicken)! Just stay away from the red lentils for its overwhelming cardamon flavoring and from the sambussa desert because it was disappointingly underwhelming.
Events such as Restaurant Week seem to exist for foodie students like us who need our yearly fix of good food at budget-friendly prices. Thank you, Chicago Restaurant Week, for existing.
