Shenzhen

Who knew that Shenzhen has the largest amount of wealthy inhabitants in all of China?  Definitely not me.  This is a really big city of 14 million just a stone's throw away from Hong Kong.  The Lonely Planet travel guide only dedicates three pages to Shenzhen because it's not a thrilling place for tourists; it's a giant, migrant-driven business district without much in the way of cultural heritage.

I hung out all weekend with Black Panda, a band in which my friend and travel buddy Peter plays the bass.  They had three shows this weekend and I was a trooper and sat through two of them start-to-finish plus the rehearsals beforehand.  Small world moment: Amir, the keyboardist, is from St. Louis and we have some common friends.

It's been muggy and raining all weekend so there are no photos of the city.  Next stop: Yunnan!
